Put away the snow shovels and parka over the weekend. Spring is here to stay, no more retreating to winter, the sound of crickets chirping in the twilight will be with us for six months, and life is good.

My wife suggested a couple weeks that I consider backing off from fencing over the summer, seeing as how I enjoy working in the yard at this time of year (the feel of dirt under my nails and thorn scratches across my forearm is most pleasing to me). She’s got a point — yard work and regular fencing practice will tire me out so that I won ‘t do either as effectively. And I did take lady summer off, so there’s precedence, for what that’s worth.

Tournament this week (an open — I’m a-gonna get crushed), then a D and under two weeks later. That will make five for the year. Take a few months off, perhaps refereeing at the club, then come back in the fall. Get to three more tournaments, and I’ll have met one of my goals for the year.
